Intravenous (IV) nutritional therapy is an efficient way to replenish vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other essential nutrients. Whether you need an energy boost or hangover recovery, migraine relief or an immune system recharge, IV therapy may be the answer you’ve been looking for.

Why IV therapy?

Jodi Westfall, owner of Advanced Integrative Wellness, giving IV Therapy to paitent

When you get nutrients through an IV, they go directly into your bloodstream, where they can be used immediately by your body. Unlike oral supplements, IV nutrients don’t have to go through the digestive system, which takes time and affects how much of the nutrient is actually absorbed.

Bypassing the digestive system is why IV nutritional therapy is also helpful if you have a health condition that interferes with the absorption of nutrients, such as leaky gut, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, or colon cancer, or if you take a proton pump inhibitor like Nexium, Prevacid, or Prilosec.

IVs can also provide a higher dose of nutrients than you can get from an oral supplement or through your diet. They can be customized to meet your specific needs, and the fluids in an IV provide the added bonus of instant hydration.

Benefits of IV nutrition therapy

IV nutrients can bring relief from an array of conditions and provide a boost to your overall well-being. Some people use IV therapy on a regular basis as part of a functional medicine approach to care. Others get IVs from time to time when they’re bothered by symptoms.

Depending on the nutrients you receive, IV therapy may help:

  • Boost energy
  • Detoxify the body
  • Enhance the immune system
  • Help prevent illness
  • Combat chronic fatigue
  • Reduce stress
  • Ease hangovers
  • Reverse symptoms of malnutrition
  • Relieve headaches
  • Promote skin health
  • Improve overall well-being

IV therapy at Advanced Integrative Wellness

Shauna Elbisser, staff and Registered Nurse, at Advanced Integrative Wellness

At AIW in Kenwood, Cincinnati, we use the highest quality, pharmaceutical-grade nutrients. Our registered nurse, Shauna Elbisser, will administer your IV. She’s an expert at putting in IVs, even when veins are hard to find! Our IV room has massage chairs so you can relax and have some much-deserved down time during your infusion.

The time you spend in our comfy massage chairs varies, depending on the nutrients and type of IV you need. Some take between 30 and 45 minutes, while others are longer, at about 60 to 80 minutes. In some cases, nutrients may be administered in what we call a push IV. These take about 15-20 minutes.

Not sure which nutrients you need? Shauna has been working in the field of functional medicine for more than ten years (right now she’s studying to be a nurse practitioner!) and she has extensive knowledge of IV nutritional therapy. She’ll talk with you to determine what combination of IV nutrients will help you the most.

Be sure to visit our IV Therapy page for information about some of our most popular IVs, like vitamin C and Myers’ Cocktail.
